Infinix Zero X Pro
The Infinix Zero X Pro is an affordable phone with a 120Hz OLED display and a triple-camera system, but it lacks some hardware and software quirks that rival the Redmi and Poco lines. It features a strong 108Mp camera with OIS, a 5x periscope telephoto, and 45W fast charging.
Infinix, a Hong Kong-based smartphone brand, has launched the Infinix Zero X Pro, a more advanced device with a 108Mp camera, fast charging, and a 120Hz AMOLED display. The device, priced at $319, aims to compete with the Pocos and Redmis, but faces challenges due to lingering hardware and software issues. Despite these issues, the Infinix Zero X Pro is expected to make a significant impact.
Design
The phone has a single speaker on the bottom edge, along with a USB-C port and a 3.5mm jack, which is typical of cheaper phones. The phone does not have an official waterproof rating, which would have been a surprising inclusion at the price. The phone's design is not as bold as the iPhone 13 and the Redmi Note 10 Pro and the Poco X3 Pro.
Screen
The Infinix Zero X Pro is a smartphone with a 6.67in AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2400 resolution, similar to the Redmi Note 10 Pro. It offers a 120Hz refresh rate and an auto-switch refresh rate by default. The device also has an always-on display function, but it's off by default. The device has a peak brightness of 416 nits in low indoor lighting, with a color accuracy of 100% sRGB, 95.3% Adobe RGB, and 99.3% DCI P3. However, the in-display fingerprint sensor is one of the flakiest I've used, with a frequent fail rate on both thumbs, even after wiping and retrying the enrolment process.
Performance
The Infinix Zero X Pro is a solid phone with 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB internal storage. It uses the MediaTek Helio G95 chip, which has been used in the Realme 8, Realme 7, and Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S. The chip is known for its strong GPU performance and has a secondary 'Boost Intelligent Display Chip' that surpasses the G95's 90Hz display limit. The phone also has a microSDXC slot for added convenience. Despite its slightly convoluted setup, the Infinix Zero X Pro is a solid choice for those looking for an affordable option in the gaming market.
Cameras
Infinix has equipped the Zero X Pro with a solid triple-camera system, with a 108Mp main sensor, 8Mp ultrawide, and 8Mp periscope telephoto. The main camera is a Samsung ISOCELL HM2 that performs well in the Realme 8 Pro and the Redmi Note 10 Pro. The phone offers accurate colors and plenty of detail, with solid dynamic range. However, the ultra-wide sensor has a jarring shift in tone and quality.
Infinix has included a 5x periscope telephoto lens, which is typically associated with more expensive phones, often not even mid-range. The results are not terrible, with the 5x shots looking sharp compared to cropped results from other cheap phones. Night mode is effectively handled by the large sensor and OIS, which the Redmi Note 10 Pro lacks.
The Infinix Zero X Pro also has an intriguing Moon Shot mode that claims to use algorithmic wizardry to achieve clear snaps of Earth's famous satellite. However, only two of the seven or eight shots I took of the moon on one particularly clear night were usable, and the rest were blurry or blown out. To use this mode, you will need to prop yourself or mount the phone to a fixed position due to the need to employ the periscope lens.
Battery
The Infinix Zero X Pro has a 4500mAh battery but struggles with stamina, scoring just 7 hours and 42 minutes in the PCMark Work 3.0 battery test. This is one of the worst performers we've seen, with competitors like the Redmi Note 10 Pro and Poco X3 NFC scoring higher. The 12nm Helio G95 chip may be responsible for this poor performance, as the Realme 8 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S scored higher. The bundled 45W charger is quick to charge, with Infinix claims to charge 40% in 15 minutes and 80% in 30 minutes. The secondary 'Boost Intelligent Display Chip' and related tinkering may be contributing to the battery life issues.
Software
The Infinix Zero X Pro is a budget Android phone running on Android 11 with a custom UI called XOS 7.6. While the UI is smooth and legible, it lacks some features that could be improved. The phone has a custom widget and news feed screen to the left of the main home screen, which is tasteful but not as useful as Google Feed. The widgets for steps and RAM usage are useful, but the user prefers to have Google Feed. Some minor issues include the need to install Google Calendar, the 'Funs & Casuals' folder, and the renaming of the battery section of the settings menu to Power Marathon. One notable addition is the Freezer folder, which allows users to disable apps that are not frequently used, making it a more intuitive and natural option. Overall, the Infinix Zero X Pro falls short in providing a user-friendly and functional Android phone experience.
Price
The Infinix Zero X Pro is priced at $319 for 128GB of storage or $349 for 256GB. It is not available for UK rollout at the time of writing, but pricing could vary significantly by region. The device is not available for online purchase from official stores or retailers like AliExpress, Geekbuying, and Gearbest. The pricing details suggest it is competing against the Poco X3 Pro and the Redmi Note 10 Pro, which are strong competitors. The phone is not currently available for purchase online.
